New update Raspberry Pi Imager (V1.6)

De Raspberry Pi foundation released a very interesting update yesterday (19-03-21). Namely, the Raspberry Pi Imager V1.6! It has now been about a year since the Imager was launched. It worked well from the start, but a number of useful adjustments have now been made.
V1.6 Raspberry Pi Imager

What's new?

At first the Imager looks the same as before. However, as soon as you press the “Select OS” button, you will immediately see other icons. The top button with the standard version of Raspberry Pi OS is still colored, but the rest are all black and white. There is now a category for media players, but it still only lists LibreElec (Kodi). There is now a category for emulators and games. You will find RetroPie and Recalbox here. Below that is a category with specific operating systems such as OctoPi.
At the boot loader you will now find options to boot from an SD card, USB or via the network.

Ctrl-Shift-X

The most interesting feature of this new update is the new advanced menu. In this menu you can set a number of things that were previously only set after the start of the Pi. For example, you can already enable SSH. This is very useful if you want to remotely access the pi from the start. You can also set the WiFi in advance. The advanced menu settings remain set for the remainder of the session after they have been saved. If you want to write SD cards more often with the adjusted settings, you can also choose to always use the settings. You do this by selecting “to always use” via the dropdown at the top of the advanced menu. Your customized settings will now be used every time you start the Imager.

Download New Imager

Unfortunately, there is no function in the Imager yet that allows you to automatically download the Imager. For the new version you have to reinstall the program. You can do this via the links below:
Do you want to install the Imager on Raspberry Pi OS? Then use the following command:
sudo apt install rpi imager
