Description Adafruit USB-C Breakout Board - Downstream Connection

Explore the future of USB connectivity with the Adafruit USB-C Breakout Board - Downstream Connection. These connectors are starting to appear more and more on devices as the industry transitions from micro B or Lightning to USB-C. USB-C offers a symmetrical, reversible connector, more data pins, and higher power output. For most developers, using the familiar pin configuration from older USB versions will remain the same.

This breakout board gives you all the basic functionality you need. It comes with a resistor configuration that mimics classic USB 2.0 for a downstream connection. Two 5.1K resistors on the CC1 pins tell the upstream port to deliver 5V and up to 1.5A. The actual power delivery depends on the device you are connecting to.

In most cases, you can simply connect VBUS to your 5V input, GND to ground, and D+ and D- as usual. You can use the CC and SBU pins to control the polarity of the cable or to send side-band data. Or leave them disconnected, depending on your needs.
