Description NeoPixel Jewel - 7x 5050 RGB LED with drivers

This is a NeoPixel Jewel from Adafruit. It contains 7 ultra bright RGBW NeoPixels arranged in a circle with a single pixel in the center. The Jewel is 23mm in diameter. The NeoPixel Jewel is daisy chainable. Connect the output pin of one to the input pin of another. You only need one microcontroller pin to control as many as you can chain together.
This is the natural white RGBW version. The Jewel also comes in warm white, cool white and RGB only!
Each LED is addressable because the driver chip is on the LED itself. They each have ~18A of constant current drive, which makes the color very consistent. Even when the voltage varies. You don't need any external choke resistors, which makes the design slim. Just power it with 5VDC and you're good to go.

It uses a single data line with a very timing specific protocol. Since the protocol is timing sensitive you will need a real time microcontroller. Examples include Arduino, AVR, PIC, mbed, Raspberry Pi . It cannot be used with a Linux based microcomputer or interpreted microcontroller such as the NetDuino . Adafruit has a NeoPixel library for Arduino which makes it easy to use. An 8MHz or faster processor is required. Wiring tutorials are available on the Adafruit site .
