What is a Arduino Uno

An Arduino (Uno) is a small board with programmable electronics. You can control various electrical components with an Arduino. Think of lights, switches, motors and various sensors.

De Arduino Uno Revision 3 – often Arduino Uno r3 of Arduino Uno rev3 mentioned – is the most commonly used board of  Arduino. This board is suitable for beginners and advanced users. Partly because of this, the Arduino Uno so popular. In addition to the Arduino Uno do you have much more boards from Arduino. Read more about the different Arduino Boards.

The Uno is based on the ATmega328 chip and has 14 digital input / output pins. 6 of these pins can be used for PWM. Furthermore, there are 6 analog input pins, a 16 MHz resonator, a USB connection, a power jack, an ICSP header and a reset button. The board contains everything needed to support the ATmega328 microcontroller.

With the Arduino development software you will have your first one within minutes Arduino project already spinning! Choose one of our fun projects, close the Arduino Uno to your computer with a USB cable, to a DC power supply (or use a battery) and you're good to go.

In the video below we briefly explain what Arduino is and what you can do with it.

What is Arduino

How does the Arduino Uno get out?

Below you can see a photo of a Arduino Uno R3. In the photo we indicate with numbers a number of important components of the board again. Below the photo we explain per component what it is and what you can do with it.

  1. You can connect the Uno to the computer via the USB A/B port so that you can board can program.
  2. The Uno includes a 9V DC Barrel Jack connection that allows you to board / project can provide power.
  3. If you don't use an external power supply for your project, you can connect your components to the 3,3V or 5V Power Pins.
  4. The Uno has 6 Analog Pins each offering 10 Bits resolution, or 1024 different values. The Pins can be used as input.
  5. The ATmega328 is the most important part of the Uno. This microcontroller chip ensures that the code is executed when the board is started.
  6. The Digital Pins on the Uno can be set as input or output. The first 6 Pins can also be used as PWM (pulse with modulation) output.

Possibilities of the Arduino Uno

De Arduino Uno is ideal for entering the world of electronics and programming. Read sensors and control motors, lights or other components. Make your own autonomous driving robot or make a musical instrument. You can't think of it that crazy and you can make it with an Arduino. The main reasons to start with Arduino are:

 Learn to program

 Learn to handle electronics

 Create cool projects

Supplies Arduino Uno

To get started with the Arduino Uno have you next to it board also need a few other things. The basic necessities are:

With these parts you can program the Arduino. Unfortunately, with the Uno alone, you're not going to get much further than it Flash project. In this project you will learn how to charge the LED on Pin 13 to blink. This is the best project to start with.

Do you want to flash more than just one LED? Then we recommend the following components:

Of course there are many more parts and components, depending on the project you want to make you can choose which one you need. If you want to be able to start immediately without hassle, we recommend that you use one of our Arduino starter kits to take.

Arduino Starter Kits

Arduino Uno Starter Kit

The Arduino starter kit is the ultimate kit for getting to know Arduino, programming and electronics.

With this kit you learn to work with the Arduino platform. This kit includes the popular Arduino Uno R3 board, a collection of sensors and actuators and a book (English). This book will help the real beginners take their first step with electronics into the world of interactive and sensing objects'.

The Arduino starter kit is a great gift for anyone from 9 to 99 years old.
In addition to the projects listed in the booklet, thousands of projects can also be found on the internet.

Other Arduino Uno

Arduino Uno Wi-Fi Rev2

De Arduino Uno WiFi is functionally the same as the Arduino Uno R3, but with the addition of WiFi and some other improvements. It includes a brand new 8-bit microprocessor from Microchip and has a built-in IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit).

The Wi-Fi module is a standalone SoC with integrated TCP / IP protocol stack that can provide access to a Wi-Fi network or act as an access point.

Arduino Uno SMD

De Arduino Uno SMD R3 is a microcontroller board based on the ATmega328.
It has 14 digital input / output pins (6 of which can be used as PWM output), 6 analog inputs, a 16 MHz crystal oscillator, a USB connector, a power connector, an ICSP header and a reset button.
It contains everything needed to support the microcontroller; just connect it to a computer with a USB cable or power it with an AC-to-DC adapter or battery to get started.
