Description Adafruit Digital RGB NeoPixel LED Strip - 30 LED - White

This is the Digital RGB NeoPixel LED Strip - 30 LED from Adafruit. This NeoPixel strip has 30 digitally addressable LEDs per meter. The strip is 12,5mm wide when it is in the housing. When you remove the strip from the housing, it is only 10mm wide. This is the version with white flex PCB. It is identical to the Black 30 RGB LED version, except the flex PCB is a different color.
The LEDs use approximately 9,5 watts max (~ a Ampere @ 5V) per meter. The max rating assumes that all LEDs are set to full white. Usually the actual current with colorful use is about 1/3 to 1/2 of the maximum current. A good power supply such as a 5V 2A to 10A is ideal for this strip.
The controller chip is built into the LEDs. This means you only use a single pin for the input and one pin for the output. The protocol used is very timing specific. It can only be controlled by microcontrollers with high repeatable timing precision of 100ns. Sample code is available for use with a Arduino Uno / Mega at 8MHz and 16MHz. With a little effort you can also use it with a Raspberry Pi or Beagle Bone Black. It does not work boards such as the NETduino and other interpreted/virtual machine microprocessors. Or processors with less than 8 MHz.
The pixels are controlled in the following way via an Arduino. The entire strip must be buffered into memory. A Arduino Uno has enough memory for about 500 LED pixels. If you want to control more pixels, it's better to use an Arduino Mega.
There are 30 RGB LEDs per meter. You can control these separately. You can set the color of the red, green and blue LED with 8-bit PWM (so 24-bit per pixel). The LEDs are controlled by shift registers mounted along the strip. It is possible to shorten or lengthen the strip where necessary.
The strip is made of flexible PCB material and comes in a weatherproof casing. You can cut the strip quite easily. There are lines marked after each pixel showing where to cut. If you want to connect two strips, you can do that with the copper strips.
