Description Adafruit FTDI Friend + extras
This is Adafruit's FTDI Friend. The FTDI Friend provides the ability to easily transfer serial data from a microcontroller to a computer. It is a tweaked FTDI FT232RL chip adapter. It has some nice features. For example, there are 4 signal lines for sending data back and forth. But you can also change the signal and power lines to 3,3V or 5V, for example.
The 6th pin is RTS (as of Arduino IDE v18 this works perfectly when uploading to Arduinos). The power wire is +5V, the signal levels are 3,3V.
A set of extra long headers is included as standard. You can use this to connect the FTDI Friend to a Breadboard to connect. On the board also includes blinkies, 2 red & green LEDs that pulse when a serial is sent or received. The USB port on the board is a type mini-B port.
