I plugged in the Pi but nothing happens?

First, check if your cables are properly connected. It is important that the (Micro-HDMI) cable is connected first before the power is turned on.
Also make sure the screen is turned on and the correct input is selected.
Once you have completed these two steps, you can switch on the power.

Set up keyboard

With Raspbian & NOOBS the keyboard layout is set to UK by default. You probably have a keyboard with US layout. The moment you get the Raspberry Pi first started you were given the option to change the location settings. If this does not happen, you can still set the correct format.

To do this, perform the following steps:

  1. To get the menu back in Raspbian OS, open a terminal window and type sudo raspi-config
  2. Select it ”Internationalization ” menu
  3. Select it keyboard setup menu.
  4. If your exact keyboard is not listed, choose one of the generic keyboards 101, 102 or 104.

If you have an American keyboard, you should choose US.

  1. The default keyboard layout is English (UK)
  2. You have to scroll down and select "Others" to return to the "Country of Origin ”menu
  3. In the ”Country of Origin” menu, select English (US)
  4. In the ”keyboard Layout” menu scroll up and select English (US)
  5. Complete the other menus and then reboot
De Raspberry Pi hangs on the rainbow screen

 Aoo

The “rainbow screen” appears every time you Raspberry Pi start up. But it flashes right away. You probably don't even notice. If the screen freezes on the “rainbow screen” you may be dealing with the following two problems.

1. Bad connection
2. The Kernel.img file does not start

Poor connection:

If the square rainbow screen is displayed in the corner or on the side of the screen, it means that you have not connected the power supply correctly. It's also possible that the power supply isn't enough for the configuration or the Pi may be overheating. So always make sure you have the correct connection.

The Kernel.img file does not boot:

If your screen is still stuck on the rainbow screen, it means that the file named kernel.img does not start correctly. One of the main reasons for this is that the .img is not written to the SD card properly or it is corrupted. To fix this problem, format the SD card and thus create a new kernel.img file as well.

Only the red lamp (PWR) is on!

Normally, both the red (pwr) and green (act) lights should come on.
The red light indicates that there is voltage on the Raspberry Pi state.
The green light flashes to indicate software activity. Is this light not flashing? Then there is probably a problem with your SD card.
Hopefully you can solve this with the following steps:
– Check that the SD card is properly inserted in the Raspberry Pi is placed.
– Check if the SD card contains the software required to use the Raspberry Pi to start up.

Raspberry pi update

It is very important to you Raspberry Pi to keep up to date. With new updates, security & performance is improved. Bugs in the software are also fixed.

You can update the software in the terminal. You open the terminal from the taskbar or the menu.

Update the system packages first. You do this by entering the following command:

 sudo apt update

Thereafter upgrade your installed packages to the latest version.
You do this with the following ccommand:

sudo apt full-upgrade

We use full-upgrade instead of the normal one upgrade. We do this because it also takes into account any dependency changes.

In general, this regularly keeps your installation up to date for the specific major Raspbian release you are running (for example, Stretch). It does not update from one major release to another, such as Stretch to Buster.

However, there have been occasional changes made to the Foundation's Raspbian image that require manual intervention, for example a newly introduced package. These are not installed with an upgrade because this command only updates the packages you have already installed.
