The Inky Impression screen is a new type of ePaper screen from Pimoroni. Like the screens on other Inky Impressions, this XL 7,3-inch display is super bright. In addition, it is energy efficient and looks great from different viewing angles. These seven-color displays are very good. They have a high pixel density and vibrant colors. This makes it perfect for displaying beautiful dithered images.
This chic screen includes the following improvements:
- The necessary hardware to create a Raspberry Pi to connect so that it fits neatly behind the screen. If your Pi already has a 40-pin header, you don't need to solder.
- Four side-mounted buttons that can be accessed if you have the panel mounted on a wall or similar.
- State-of-the-art ray tracing technology (in the form of some flashy PCB art) 🐟
E-paper screens only consume power when they are refreshed. So they are a good choice for projects such as home automation dashboards and electronic photo frames that must be always on. This screen takes approximately 40 seconds to refresh. So it is best suited for projects that do not require constant screen updates.

- Multi-color EPD displays use electrophoresis to move colored particles up and down the screen, which is visible under bright light.
- Everything comes fully assembled and no soldering is required (as long as you... Raspberry Pi has a 40-pin header). The screen is securely attached to the Inky Impression PCB and connected via a ribbon cable. Just place Inky Impression on your Pi and run our installer to set everything up!
- The I2C pins on the back of Inky Impression are broken through, allowing you to connect additional devices and display their data directly on the screen.
- Inky Impression works with any version of the Pi that has a 40-pin header, including Zero variants. If you do it with a Raspberry Pi 400, you'll probably also want to purchase a GPIO extension cable (unless you plan to use the display at a very unusual angle).
- The Inky Impression display is made of glass, so be careful not to drop it or press it too hard or it may crack. When attaching to your Pi, it is better to hold the edges of the circuit board rather than pressing on top of the screen.
- ePaper displays work best when refreshed at an ambient temperature (between 15 and 35°C). When the screen is cold, colors may appear less vibrant.
- Due to the size of this panel and the specific practices surrounding suspending colored particles in a substance, there may be some expected variation in color density towards the corners. This is most noticeable when displaying solid colors - green and orange in particular become less saturated in the corners of the panel. The corners can also sometimes have a pink tint when displaying full white.
