Description 8-channel Bi-directional Logic Level Converter - TXB0108
Most microcontrollers & Arduinos are 5V devices. Most modern sensors, displays and accessories are all 3,3V. It is therefore wise to perform a conversion to protect the 3,3V device against 5V. That is why Adafruit has developed this 8-channel level converter.
You can bi-directional level shift with this breakout, from any voltage to any voltage. It detects the direction automatically. The breakout doesn't work well with I2C because it uses strong pullups. This will confuse the auto-direction sensor. If you want to use pullups, they must be at least 50K Ohms.
Because this chip is a special bi-directional level shifter it doesn't have strong output pins. You cannot drive LEDs or long cables with it. The breakout is meant to be on a Breadboard placed between two logic chips. When you don't need instant bi-directional support, the 74LVC245 is a better choice. This one offers a strong output.
Thanks to this breakout, you don't have to solder small pitch chips. You do have to solder the supplied headers when using the breakout on a Breadboard want to use. There are 0,1uF capacitors and a 10K pull-up resistor on the output enable pin. So you can use it right away.
